November Funky Junk Flea Market & Craft Fair
I'm looking forward to this long weekend, not only for the epic gorging that will take place this weekend (blah, blah, blah, family time.), but because I have yet another Funky Junk Flea Market & Craft Sale! This month we're adding a Friday evening portion to our Saturday fair to coincide with Black Friday. The fine folks just down the street are putting on 5 Points Friday, a great event promoting shopping local for the holidays. They've invited us to particpate alongside them, so all the more reason to come over to the East Side for amazing local shopping for the holidays!
This time around the sale will have a great array of vendors, some different from Friday to Saturday. (perhaps it's best to come BOTH days!). I hope to include a list of the vendors soon.

Upcoming events
So I've got a lot coming up in the next week and all of it is going to be a blast!
First off, this Saturday, is Boheme Collectif's Funk Junk Flea Market. Tucked away in an odd little venue, Boheme Collectif will be featuring DJ Sooper Grover as well as some of the coolest, funkiest art, crafts and vintage Nashville has to offer. It's also a fabulous venue for performance art and music, but I'll get to that in a minute. You don't want to miss out on this!
Below is a sampling of items that I will have available there!
Next Wednesday, the Magic Cabaret will be putting on a night of magic, burlesque, music and so much more to help raise money for Suicide Prevention. There will be prize packages and individual prizes auctioned off, a bake sale and more entertainment than you can shake a stick at. I'll be contributing my semi-famous vegan (don't let that fool you) pumpkin bread and a few necklaces to the fundraising effort as well as enjoying the smorgasbord of delights set for the evening. Last, but not least, EraBellum Artist Co-op will celebrate its official, Grand Opening! It'll be Thursday, September 27th from 6 pm until 9 pm. There will be food, fun, music and retail therapy available. I am so excited about my booth there, check it out!

Living Green Expo
I was really tickled by the overwhelmingly positive response that I received from the organizers and I really look forward to exploring a new kind of event. I have to admit though, I'm a little nervous, too. This is typically not the kind of event that people go to looking for a wacky new lamp or funky, recycled jewelry, so we'll see if the audience is there.

Boheme Collectif Funky Junk Flea Market
So I've been hearing an approving murmur here and there about a group called Boheme Collectif. I keep hearing good things about the people in it and the shows and exhibitions they put on, so when I saw that they were putting on their very first craft show, The Funky Junk Flea Market, I jumped on it! This Saturday, August 18th from 9 am until 2, they'll be holding their first ever art, craft & vintage show at their not-so-secret lair on Gallatin Ave. If you can make it, you should come by and check it out, if all goes well, they plan to make it a monthly event. Bastille Day Art Walk in Hillsboro Village
Thanks to a thriving French Market and Cafe (Provence),
which was one of the pioneers of Hillsboro Village as we know it today,
Bastille Day is kind of a big deal in the Village. So much of a big
deal that they've moved the monthly art walk, that is usually on
Thursday evenings, to Saturday so as to fall on the day itself. I'll be
sharing a small tent with my pal Adrien of DCXV
on the street in front of the Pancake Pantry. There should be loads of
French themed goodness to partake in, I hope that everyone can make it!

Furniture for Porter Flea
I've finished a couple of pieces of furniture for Porter Flea. These, of course, are clearly Asian in their imagery, but I have a couple of pieces that have a decidedly southwestern/south-of-the-border feel. I've also got another one of those amazing vintage folding chairs that looks like a regular wooden chair with an upholstered seat, but then, BAM! You fold it down to a small square with a slight tug on the hidden release! Vintage and upcycled lamps and ALL kind of goodies await you at the Flea!

Hillsboro Art Walk
Once again I am honored and more than a little tickled to be Pangaea's featured artist for the Hillsboro Village monthly Art Walk. I have been in love with this shop since it first opened over on Belmont, so I'm always kind of thunderstruck when they ask me to show there or buy my creations for their shop. I was their featured artist last year for the Bastille Day celebration and this year I am there for the Earth Day celebration. (I know it's a little early for Earth Day, but April Fools is a bad theme and Easter is out because they want to keep it secular)

We started in 1993 with a single cafe called Bongo Java and have since added other coffee and food operations. We now unofficially call our entire operation Bongo World.
Bongo World consists of four cafes and a wholesale coffee roasting company. Each store has its own personality, look and menu. Overall, the company seeks to serve high-quality coffee and food in unique, comfortable atmospheres. We also have a commitment to sustainability. Thus, our coffee is 100% organic, bought directly from small-farmer cooperatives under the terms of Fair Trade.
Fido is darn popular yet is perhaps Nashville’s best food secret. The cafe evolved from an upscale coffeehouse with sandwiches into a chef-managed eclectic restaurant with great coffee. The menu includes such items as Breakfast Burritos, Fish Tacos and Grilled Chicken with sweet potato & bacon hash and specials include such things as gazpacho with pear and cucumber sorbet, grilled salmon over polenta and Thai Coconut Shrimp with wild rice cakes.

Learn about the treasures that are right here in Tennessee and how important it is that we work together to save them! One winner will enjoy a private picnic and tour for four graciously donated by Provence at the historic Glen Leven Farm.
2)April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Sexual Assault Center(SAC) would like to partner with Hillsboro Village in April in an effort to raise awareness in the Nashville community. This year’s campaign focuses on the 11thAnnual Walk in Their shoes Event. Promoting awareness and educating individuals is crucial to helping end sexual violence - it’s time to get involved. http://www.sacenter.org/
Our idea is to have a small display of the SAC Clothesline Project somewhere along the Hillsboro Village Art Walk. Along with information surrounding our Clothesline Project, we will have flyers and registration sheets for our 11thAnnual Walk in Their Shoes Event. Walk in Their Shoes is an event to raise awareness about the issue of sexual assault and to raise funds to provide healing for victims of this crime. This event includes a 5k timed run, 5k celebration walk, a display of the clothesline art project, music, refreshments, a survivor celebration moment, and MUCH MORE! The Walk in Their Shoes gives all people the opportunity to stand together and support the victims of violence. This type of united force turns shame into power, pain into resilience, and victims into survivors.
3)Music City Suds– artist - Rachel Turnerwas raised in rural Tennessee, the sounds of classic country and bluegrass reverberating through her childhood. When she began making handcrafted, all-natural body products, she wanted to pay homage to that music. So she started Music City Suds. Whether you're lathering up with "I Walk the Lime" or singing in the shower with "Flat and Scrubs," you'll find a little bit of Tennessee in every sud. https://missinginkshop.com/
4)Exile International- a non-profit based out of Nashville. We work with former child soldiers and other war-affected children in DR Congo and Eastern Africa, using art and expressive therapy to help them process and overcome the severe traumas they have experienced in the wars.
The women and children who have survived the wars make beaded jewelry using recycled magazine paper in order to provide for their families. We buy the jewelry during our time with them, and then sell it here to support our work with the children. http://www.

12)The Original Cast Vanderbilt University's premier musical theater revue troupe, founded in 1975 by a group of Broadway-loving students. Their Spring 2012 show, "Facing Empty Spaces," will run April 12-14 at 8pm at Langford Auditorium (by the Vanderbilt Medical Center). 16)Catholic Charities Refugee Services - Refuge Handicrafts is a part of Catholic Charities’ Refugee Services Women’s Alliance Group. Our clients made up of refugee women from all over the world come together weekly to sew and create handcrafted items to sell. Many of the women we work with have faced additional barriers to traditional employment. We seek to provide alternative sources of income and also provide a range of other services to meet their needs in integrating into the US culture, which include English language training.

Musician –Cristina Peck My music is melody driven, so perhaps it could best be described as a combination of melodic, alternative rock and a little folk. I've been inspired by movie soundtracks I've heard growing up along with artists such as Bjork, Radiohead, Tori Amos, and Talking Heads. My music has been said to be cinematic, soul searching, and honest. 16)Catholic Charities Refugee Services - Refuge Handicrafts is a part of Catholic Charities’ Refugee Services Women’s Alliance Group. Our clients made up of refugee women from all over the world come together weekly to sew and create handcrafted items to sell. We seek to provide alternative sources of income and also provide a range of other services to meet their needs in integrating into the US culture, which include English language training.

Nashville-based painter Megan Lightell presents large scale landscapes
inspired by a recent cross-country trip she took with her
family.Lightell's work centers on our complex and mysterious
relationship to the environment. Distilled elements of sky and
horizon-line dominate canvases providing both pictorial passages
descriptive of the rolling hills and tree stands of the Ohio Valley and
open vistas found west of the Mississippi. Abstract brushwork

FIRE FINCH – artist - Meghan Coomes After
bidding farewell to the Nantucket Island beaches, freelance TV
producer, former CMT employee and Nashville resident, Meghan Coomes,
found herself back in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
In between television projects & possessing copious free time, she
decided to take on a project of a different kind. Love of family
coupled with passion for art soon spawned the idea of "Forever Yours,
Agnes." Meghan, along with her other cousins, grew up hearing the
whirlwind love story of their grandparents--Thomas & Agnes Coomes.
Its inherent beauty was ingrained in their hearts, representing not only
their grandparents' story, but that of a generation of lovers who were
separated during a world war. So, after nearly 70 years spent in an old,
brown sack, Meghan decided to gather some of the dust-covered letters
& immortalize those words in the form of this jewelry line, “Forever
Yours, Agnes." In doing so, their grandparents' memory & steadfast
love can not only be a part of their thoughts, but a tangible part of
people's everyday semblances, as well.
music - Just Greg is a DJ who wants to share his music
with you. Like an effeminate boyfriend who labors over a mix tape as a
gift for his special someone. Only this time he will make it on the
fly... on a sidewalk... for a large group of passers by... for three
hours. Just Greg will assemble and cross-pollinate special songs created
by paid professionals. Just Greg selects sounds from a multitude of
genres including Dancehall, House, Grime, Dubstep (not to be confused
with brostep), and Drum and Bass. He prefers to pepper them sparsely
with US top 40, underground hip hop, funk, and many sub-genres of rock
(yes even psychobilly). Listeners are encouraged to dress casually and
comfortably as they enjoy his performance. Please stay as long as you'd
like, he understands that 3 hours is a long time.
JACKSON’S–artist – Emma Klingbell is a
free-lance fine artists and illustrator living in Nashville, TN. She
recently relocated to Nashville from Wisconsin, and is currently
attending the Academy of Art University for her bachelor's in Fine
Art/Painting.
A THOUSAND FACES – Local artist, Danielle Gilbert of Genthree Designswill
be featured here at A Thousand Faces for the April Hillsboro Village
Art Walk. Genthree Designs is a Nashville based company that combines
the artistic talents and inspirations of three generations of women.
All cards and t-shirt designs are hand drawn by genthree and
screen printed by Kangaroo Press with earth friendly inks on consciously
produced papers and fabrics. The t-shirts are 50% organic cotton and
50% recycled plastic bottles. Genthree does not mass produce or print
anything digitally, thus the screen printing of each card produces a
time consuming piece of art.
HOT AND COLD - artist - The diagnosis was received when Grace Walker Goadwas
32 months in 1997. After a year of typical, grueling early
interventions for her disorder, her mother, author/speaker/advocate Leisa A. Hammett knew this truth: children with disAbilities deserve the joy of art making, too. It was visual art that her mother, her father, Jeff Goad,
and her art therapist could see, that at age four, was Grace’s keenest
mode of expression. Grace began exhibiting her art at age six. She began
selling at age eight. At age twelve, she began receiving local,
regional, national and international acclaim via newspapers, magazines,
the internet and television. In 2007, she appeared on the autism episode of ABC’s “The View.”
That year, GraceArt, was launched to sell a card and print line, in
addition to Grace’s originals. Her work has also been featured on a book and magazine cover and a national conference t-shirt. GraceArt is shown regularly in Nashville, is held by private collectors, in addition to Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and the Tennessee Arts Commission's Tennessee Artists Collection at the Tennessee State Museum, plus various southeastern galleries.
As a teenager now, Grace enjoys a happy, healthy, well-rounded life
brimming with meaningful activity, art, plus heapings of love and
celebration for who she is and the gifts she brings to the world as a
Differently Abled individual living with Autism.
BOOKMAN/BOOKWOMAN – Join us for an unforgettable evening with Nashville Notables Christine Kreyling,
author and urban critic, and her husband, Michael Kreyling, author and
Vanderbilt professor, on Thursday, April 5 at 6 p.m. Christine will
discuss her favorite book, The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers, and Michael will discuss Absalom! Absalom! by William Faulkner.

Michael Shane Neal, and many others. She enjoys communicating the
beauty of the world in paint.

RETROPOLITAN– artist - Nashville Musician Phil Madeira will
be celebrating the Art Walk with us at Retropolitan, with several of
his fine paintings of tuba players, fishing lures, and grounded birds.
Phil is a member of Emmylou Harris' band, as well as an award winning
songwriter and record producer. His new project Mercyland: Hymns For
The Rest Of Us releases April 24, but he will have a few pre-release
copies on hand at his opening here on the 5th.

What's new? Well I'll tell you!
I've posted quite a few new handmade jewelry items in my etsy shop. I plan to get more pieces photographed and posted to etsy next week if at all possible. Unfortunately my ability to photograph items well is contingent on nice bright sunlight, which unfortunately the great city of Nashville has not seen much of lately. Sunday promises to be sunny and bright (and more importantly not blisteringly cold) so I should have a good set up in the back yard with my white foam core and boxes of treasures. I often wonder what the neighbors think I'm doing back there as I live on a corner so all of my backyard, amateur photography shenanigans are visible to every Joe Schmoe on the street!
I've also got some delightful vintage items up with more to come! I've got some strange and lovely pieces in the hopper just waiting to be photographed and posted.
